Softball Visits Valparaiso

Ryan hit two doubles, drew three walks, drove in five runs, scored seven runs and collected nine hits with an .800 on-base percentage and a .917 slugging percentage. She had three multi-hit games, including her first career 3-hit game in the series finale win over the Sycamores, and didn’t strike out once. Ryan’s hot week raised her average from .268 to .337, and she leads the team in stolen bases with 14. Newman and Ryan were named MVC Pitcher and Player of the Week, respectively. Newman’s award is her fifth this season while Ryan’s is the first in her career and the first player of the week award for a Bulldog in 2019. Drake (21-13, 7-1 MVC), which had a midweek in-state game at Iowa State cancelled due to inclement weather, went an impressive 5-0 last week, including three-run rule wins, two over Indiana State and one over Big Ten foe, Nebraska. Drake’s offense, defense and pitching was outstanding as it scored 41 runs, committed just one error and allowed one run and three total hits in the five games.
