Pakistan speedster Wahab Riaz ruled out of Champions Trophy 2017 with ankle injury

first_imgThere’s more misery in store for Pakistan after the humiliating loss against India, as its premier fast bowler Wahab Riaz has been ruled out of the remainder of the Champions Trophy 2017 with an ankle injury.Pakistan’s campaign began on a disastrous note as they lost the first match against defending champions India by 124 runs (D/L) in a rain-truncated match at Edgbaston on Sunday.Riaz went for plenty of runs conceding 87 runs in 8.4 overs at an economy rate of over 10 per over before he was forced to leave the field with the ankle injury. Riaz’s figures are the most expensive by a bowler in Champions Trophy history.India’s superiority over Pakistan was there for all to see at the packed Edgbaston stadium as the Men in Blue completely outplayed the Men in Green in all three departments to begin their title defence on a high.Riding on half-centuries from Rohit Sharma (91), Shikhar Dhawan (68), Virat Kohli (81*) and Yuvraj Singh (53), India posted a huge total of 319/3 from their quota of 48 overs in a rain curtailed match. With the target being revised to 289 from 41 overs, the Indian bowlers then stepped up and bundled out Pakistan for 164 from 33.4 overs with Umesh Yadav (3/30) being the pick of the bowlers. Ravindra Jadeja (2/43) and Hardik Pandya (2/43) supported him ably.Riaz was unable to take the field after his injury and didn’t come out to bat after Umesh picked up the ninth Pakistani wicket of Hasan Ali in the 34th over.Mohammed Amir had also left the field after suffering from what seemed like cramps while bowling just 8.1 overs but he later came out to bat and scored nine runs before being dismissed by Umesh in the same over.advertisementlast_img read more
