Icap’s new system hits €10bn

first_img whatsapp Icap’s new system hits €10bn INTER-DEALER broker Icap notched up interest rate swap (IRS) trades with a nominal value of over €10bn (£8.36bn) in the first week of trading on its electronic market. The figure represented 15 per cent of the total number of Euro IRS trades passing through the firm’s order book over the week, with 13 major banks already signed up to the system, chief executive Michael Spencer said.“By using our technology banks are able to execute trades that they would not previously have been able to match,” he added. “We expect that the volume of business will continue to grow as more banks are connected and more streaming prices are added to the platform.”Icap expects to have around 24 banks on board with the electronic system before the end of the year.It has developed the market in response to calls from regulators to improve transparency in the over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives area in the wake of the collapse of Lehman Brothers. In June, the US Congress passed its marathon bill detailing reforms to financial regulation, which included tighter rules on trading derivatives, including parking desks trading the riskier types of instruments into subsidies with their own pools of capital. The EU is also lobbying for stricter regulation of the derivatives market, arguing that more instruments should be cleared through central clearing houses to guarantee counterparty payment in the event of a future bank failure. BEST OF THE BROKERS

first_img BEST OF THE BROKERS KCS-content Monday 4 October 2010 8:18 pm AHOLDRBS has lowered its target price, but still rates the food retailer a “buy” with a target of €11.80. The broker has cut earnings per share forecasts for 2010 to 2012 by four to six per cent, chiefly due to the recent strength of the euro against the dollar. It believes the departure of chief executive John Rishton will make little difference.ALEXONBrewin Dolphin rates the clothing retailer an “add” with a 12-month target price of 21p. The broker has cut its earnings per share forecasts by 25 per cent for 2011 due to what it sees as delays in improvement. It maintains that the firm shows promise but believes investors will be wary of adding to retail exposure in the run-up to Christmas.PETROFACArden Partners has downgraded the oil group to “neutral” from “add” with a target price of £13.67. While the broker views last week’s interim results as strong, it sees better value elsewhere in the sector. It has raised its earnings per share by 5 cents to $1.20 in the current financial year, on the back of $4.17bn sales. He said his firm would “look like geniuses” if it hadn’t bought EMI, but refused to discuss his recent legal battle against Citigroup. “EMI is where EMI is,” he told the Super Investor conference in Paris yesterday. It was the Terra Firma owner’s first public appearance since losing a $2bn (£1.25bn) fraud case against the investment bank over the purchase of EMI. Hands unsuccessfully claimed Citigroup had tricked him into paying $6.8bn for the debt-laden firm in May 2007. He told conference delegates that private equity needed to accept lower returns in the future. “2004 to 2007 was an anomaly…the Woodstock years. We have to accept reality and stop chasing ghosts. We are back where we were,” Hands said. Buyout funds should return to basics, he said. Private equity would have to invest in good businesses and hold on to them long-term rather than selling out after three years.Investors should expect returns of eight or nine per cent rather than the 20 per cent seen at the height of the market, he added. US authorities will announce string of insider dealing cases

first_img KCS-content whatsapp US authorities will announce string of insider dealing cases whatsapp Show Comments ▼ Tags: NULL Monday 22 November 2010 6:10 amcenter_img Share Federal authorities are closing in on a series of high profile targets as part of a drive to purge insider trading from Wall Street. They are understood to be on the verge of announcing cases against hedge fund traders, consultants and Wall Street bankers within weeks, according to lawyers working on the cases.Prosecutors and securities regulators are likely to file a number of cases targeting the $1.7 trillion hedge fund industry rather than a single spectacular case, said the lawyers. They are likely to reveal suspicions of multiple, highly organised insider trading rings suspected of reaping tens of millions of dollars for their members over a period of years. The probe is said to include up to three dozen companies. The new round of prosecutions could start before Christmas, lawyers said, adding that they could rival last year’s arrest of Galleon Group hedge fund manager Raj Rajaratnam and nearly two-dozen others in one of the largest insider trading cases ever brought.Authorities are still deciding whether to pursue cases against several individuals who were implicated but never charged in the Galleon case and another case involving a former UBS investment banker. by Taboolaby TaboolaSponsored LinksSponsored LinksPromoted LinksPromoted LinksYou May LikeMisterStoryWoman Files For Divorce After Seeing This Photo – Can You See Why?MisterStoryTotal PastThe Ingenious Reason There Are No Mosquitoes At Disney WorldTotal PastSerendipity TimesInside Coco Chanel’s Eerily Abandoned Mansion Frozen In TimeSerendipity TimesZen HeraldNASA’s Voyager 2 Has Entered Deep Space – And It Brought Scientists To Their KneesZen Heraldmoneycougar.comThis Proves The Osmonds Weren’t So Innocentmoneycougar.comAlphaCute30 Rules That All “Hells Angels” Have To FollowAlphaCuteTaonga: The Island FarmThe Most Relaxing Farm Game of 2021. This is the lowest level since February 2010, but broadly in line with analysts’ forecasts for a reading of 47,000.Net mortgage lending, however, rose twice as fast as expected, by £963m last month, the biggest rise since August.Still, the figures are likely to reinforce the view that Britain’s housing market remains fragile, as mortgage approvals are running at around half their long-run average rate of 90,000 since April 1993.Net consumer credit rose by £287m in October, in line with forecasts.Broad M4 money supply growth was 0.7 per cent in October, but the annual rate fell sharply to -0.7 per cent – the lowest since the series began in 1983.Separate figures showed the BoE’s preferred money supply gauge – M4 excluding intermediate other financial corporations – rose 2.9 per cent on an annualised basis in the three months to October, compared with growth of 2.5 per cent in the previous three month period.
