ZDNet reports yesterday that at the SIIA OnDemand Summit (Software & Information Industry Association) held in San Jose this week that Abhijit Dubey of McKinsey released results of their survey of CIOs and found that 61% of them now were considering adopting of some form of SaaS — compared to 38% from a survey taken last year. That’s a huge jump. The SIIA OnDemand conference was a two day meeting of about 300 ISVs, platform vendors and “SaaS Thought-Leaders”. Keynotes were presented by Salesforce.com, HP, IBM, and Microsoft. The conference also gave an opportunity to SaaS startups and new ventures to introduce themselves to a large audience. The types of software being delivered as SaaS cover a large range of areas, including mobile resource management, eLearning, billing and account management, email archiving, and mortgage servicing. This year’s SIIA OnDemand conference was a first of what may become an annual event. We’ve been hearing for some time that once companies feel comfortable with SaaS reliability, performance and security issues that the SaaS market should be poised to take off. It looks like we’re reaching that level of comfort zone, so hold on.
Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppProvidenciales, TCI, July 13, 2016 – Police need to find a blue colored Nissan March which drove off with 26 year old Sorineida Morena Arias on Sunday; it was around 4 a.m and at this point there was nothing to suggest that she was taken by force; though police say that has not been ruled out. In a media conference this morning we learned more about the investigation including that a strong tip led Police to search in the Cooper Jack area and due to the canal system there, the search will be expanded to the waters of Cooper Jack.Investigators reminded that the case is still a missing person’s case, but in response to a Magnetic Media question, it was explained that comparisons are being made between this case and the one in April where another 26 year old Dominican was first missing, then found dead. Pirates Cove will be searched and it was confirmed that officials from the Dominican Republic have been in touch with the Police about the concerning trend where it seems Dominican women are targets. Police opted not to weigh in on what is going on possibly; saying it is just too early in the probe to say.Look out for any blue coloured Nissan March and report it, it may lead to clues to finding this young woman who is also a mother. James Martin/CNET Last year, Google stoked intense controversy when it announced Duplex, a technology that uses eerily human-sounding artificial intelligence software to book restaurant reservations and hair appointments. Immediately, the project spurred a debate over ethics in artificial intelligence and generated fear over a robot’s ability to deceive people. Now Google is unveiling its follow up — and it’s a lot less disturbing. At the company’s I/O developer conference on Tuesday, the search giant announced an update to Duplex called “Duplex on the Web” that’ll allow it to make more types of bookings. Now it will also be able to handle car rentals and movie tickets. Aug 26 • Android Q has a name: Android 10. Here’s how you’ll use it But this one doesn’t involve speech-mimicking robots that spark debate over AI ethics. It’s basically like autofill on steroids. It automates the process of filling out forms you’d find on the mobile web. Here’s how it works: You’d say something like, “Hey Google, get me a rental car from National for my next trip.” The Assistant then pulls up National’s website on your phone and starts filling out the fields in real time.Throughout the process you see a progress bar, like you’d see if you were downloading a file. Whenever the system needs more information, like a price or seat selection, the process pauses and prompts you to make a selection. When it’s done, you tap to confirm the booking or payment. The system fills out the form by using data culled from your calendar, Gmail inbox and Chrome autofill (like your credit card information and login info). The update will launch later this year on Android phones. The new Duplex announcement is much tamer than last year’s debut, which freaked out audiences from the very moment Google CEO Sundar Pichai presented the demo. The artificial intelligence software is patterned after human speech, using verbal tics like “uh” and “um.” It speaks with the cadence of a real person, pausing before responding and elongating certain words as though it’s buying time to think. The tech brought to life a vision of what a voice assistant could sound like in the future: Natural and lifelike, instead of the semirobitic, disembodied voice you hear coming from a Google Home or Amazon Echo today. The demo immediately raised flags for AI experts, industry watchers and consumers, who worried about the ethics of creating robots that could fool people into thinking they were talking to other humans. Google later said it would build in disclosures so people would know they were talking to automated software. Now the feature is available on both Android phones and iPhones, in 43 states. Still, the visceral backlash was a key moment for Google, Scott Huffman, head of engineering for the Google Assistant, told me earlier this year. “The strength of the reaction surprised me,” he said. “It made it clear to us how important those societal questions are going forward.”The new update also redefines how Google is thinking of Duplex. It’s not just the name of the search giant’s human-sounding AI. It’s more of a class of software that helps with performing tasks, and for now that’s booking — whether it’s over the phone, on the web or somewhere else in the future. “The way we think about Duplex, in broad strokes, it’s a model of technology that allows us to automate tasks,” Manuel Bronstein, vice president of product for the Assistant, said in an interview last week. “It just happens to be that the first task that we showed to automate was making a phone call to a restaurant.”Originally published at 10:25 a.m. PT. Shubman Gill and Andre Russell after KKR defeated SRH at Eden Gardens on March 24, 2019.Kolkata Knight Riders InstagramAt one point 53 runs were required off 16 balls and Russell then took over to hit 7 sixes and a boundary to finish the game off. With one run left to get in the last over, Russell sprinted through for the winning run as if he were a Jamaican sprinter and then punched his chest a few times. It was a miracle and Russell is making it a habit to script miracles for KKR. On the night, the big Jamaican scored 48 runs from 13 balls. To recount Russell’s innings since the 18th over, it was – dot ball, dot ball, six runs, six runs, six runs, one run, six runs, six runs, six runs, four runs, six runs. Earlier in the evening, Dinesh Karthik won the toss and elected to bowl first. Virat Kohli and AB De Villiers helped the home team reach 205 and for most of the chase, it looked as though it would be enough for RCB to notch up their first victory of the tournament. But Andre Russell thought otherwise. Andre Russell.ReutersRussell was naturally delighted after the match and said that although it was an improbable situation, he was confident. “I was confident when I went out to bat. DK was telling me to take a few balls to see how the pitch is behaving. I was watching in the dugout on TV and had a fair idea. When you need 68 off 20-odd balls, it doesn’t happen everyday,” said Russell.”Need to put your body on the line. The nature of T20 is such that one over can change the momentum. That’s why I never give up. A part of me was saying that the runs needed were too much but I wanted to fight and eventually, we won with five balls spare. The support is good from the boys and I am in a good space so that I can express myself. No ground is big enough for me I guess, I just trust my power. Hand-eye coordination is the key (for low full tosses) as they aren’t easy to hit. I try short arm jabs as extending the arms can put you in trouble. Can’t explain much, rather show that on the field,” Russell concluded with a wide grin on his face. We needed to be more clever, nothing came off and we just cracked under pressure. That’s been our story this season so far,” said Kohli.”If you bowl with not enough bravery in the crucial overs, it’s always going to be difficult against power-hitters like Russell. I wasn’t really happy getting out at that moment, could’ve got 20-25 more. AB didn’t get much strike in the end. I thought the runs were enough on the board, we didn’t have enough composure. If you can’t defend 75 in the last four overs, then I don’t know if you can defend 100. We can have a bit of chat about what went wrong, apart from that nothing much you can say. I don’t think talking enough helps all the time. You need to give the guys some space and come back stronger in the next game. It’s been a disappointing season so far, but we are still optimistic about our chances. We just have to believe in ourselves that we can turn things around,” an extremely disappointed Kohli concluded.
