Aortic stenosis

first_imgDefinitionThe aorta is the main artery that carries blood out of the heart to the rest of the body. Blood flows out of the heart and into the aorta through the aortic valve. In aortic stenosis, the aortic valve does not open fully. This decreases blood flow from the heart.Alternative NamesAortic valve stenosis; Rheumatic aortic stenosis; Calcific aortic stenosisCausesAs the aortic valve narrows, the left ventricle has to work harder to create more pressure to pump blood out through the valve. To do this extra work, the muscles in the ventricle walls become thicker. This can lead to chest pain.As the pressure continues to rise, blood may back up into the lungs. Severe aortic stenosis can limit the amount of blood that reaches the brain and rest of the body.Aortic stenosis may be present from birth (congenital), but most often it develops later in life. Children with aortic stenosis may have other conditions present from birth.Aortic stenosis mainly occurs due to the buildup of calcium deposits that narrow the valve. This is called calcific aortic stenosis. The problem generally affects older people.Calcification of the valve happens sooner in patients who are born with abnormal aortic or bicuspid valves. In rare cases, calcification can develop more quickly when a person has received chest radiation (such as for cancer treatment).Another cause is rheumatic fever. This condition can develop after strep throat or scarlet fever. Valve problems do not develop for 5 – 10 years or longer after rheumatic fever occurs. Rheumatic fever is becoming rarer in the United States.advertisementAortic stenosis occurs in about 2% of people over 65 years of age. It occurs more often in men than in women.SymptomsMost people with aortic stenosis do not develop symptoms until the disease is advanced. The diagnosis may have been made when the health care provider heard a heart murmur and performed tests.Symptoms of aortic stenosis include:Chest discomfort: The chest pain may get worse with activity and reach into the arm, neck, or jaw. The chest may also feel tight or squeezed.Cough, possibly bloodyBreathing problems when exercisingBecoming easily tiredFeeling the heart beat (palpitations)Fainting, weakness, or dizziness with activityIn infants and children, symptoms include:Becoming easily tired with exertion (in mild cases)Failure to gain weightPoor feedingSerious breathing problems that develop within days or weeks of birth (in severe cases)Children with mild or moderate aortic stenosis may get worse as they get older. They are also at risk for a heart infection called bacterial endocarditis.Exams and TestsA heart murmur, click, or other abnormal sound is almost always heard through a stethoscope. The health care provider may be able to feel a vibration or movement when placing a hand over the heart. There may be a faint pulse or changes in the quality of the pulse in the neck.Blood pressure may be low.Aortic stenosis is most often detected and then followed using a test called an echocardiogram. The following tests may also be performed:ECGExercise stress testingLeft cardiac catheterizationMRI of the heartTransesophageal echocardiogram (TEE)TreatmentRegular checkups by a health provider may be all that is needed if you have no symptoms or only mild symptoms. The health care provider should ask about your health history, do a physical exam, and perform an echocardiogram.People with severe aortic stenosis may be told not to play competitive sports, even if they have no symptoms. If symptoms do occur, strenuous activity must often be limited.Medicines are used to treat symptoms of heart failure(link) or abnormal heart rhythms (most commonly atrial fibrillation). These include diuretics (water pills), nitrates, and beta-blockers. High blood pressure should also be treated. If aortic stenosis is severe, this treatment must be done carefully so blood pressure does not drop to dangerously low levels. In the past, most patients with heart valve problems were given antibiotics before dental work or an invasive procedure such as colonoscopy. The antibiotics were given to prevent an infection of the damaged heart. However, antibiotics are now used much less often before dental work and other procedures. Check with your health care provider to find out whether you need antibiotics.People with this condition should stop smoking and be treated for high cholesterol.Surgery to repair or replace the valveis often done for adults or children who develop symptoms. Even if symptoms are not very bad, the doctor may recommend surgery based on some test results.A less invasive procedure called balloon valvuloplasty may be done instead of surgery.advertisementA balloon is placed into an artery in the groin, threaded to the heart, placed across the valve, and inflated. However, narrowing often occurs again after this procedure.A newer procedure done at the same time as valvuloplasty can implant an artificial valve. This procedure is most often done in patients who cannot have surgery, but is becoming more common. Some children may need aortic valve repair or replacement. Children with mild aortic stenosis may be able to take part in most activities.Outlook (Prognosis)The outcome varies. The disorder may be mild and not produce symptoms. Over time, the aortic valve may become more narrow, and as a result, more severe heart problems may develop, such as.Atrial fibrillation and atrial flutterBlood clots to the brain (stroke), intestines, kidneys, or other areasFainting spells, called syncopeHeart failureHigh blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs (pulmonary hypertension)The results of aortic valve repair are often excellent. To get the best treatment, go to a center that regularly performs this type of surgery. When to Contact a Medical ProfessionalCall your health care provider if you or your child has symptoms of aortic stenosis. Also contact your doctor right away if you have been diagnosed with this condition and your symptoms get worse or new symptoms develop.ReferencesBonow RO, Carabello BA, Chatterjee K, de Leon AC Jr., Faxon DP, Freed MD, et al; 2006 Writing Committee Members; American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Task Force. 2008 Focused update incorporated into the ACC/AHA 2006 guidelines for the management of patients with valvular heart disease: a report of the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Task Force on Practice Guidelines (Writing Committee to Revise the 1998 Guidelines for the Management of Patients with Valvular Heart Disease): endorsed by the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, and Society of Thoracic Surgeons. OnePlus 5 to be first phone with Snapdragon 835 processor in India, June launch almost confirmed

first_imgFor now no one outside OnePlus knows when the company’s flagship OnePlus 5 will launch. Although the rumours of the June launch have been there. In fact, India Today Tech too has learned of either a mid-June launch, or if there is some delay, then early July launch of OnePlus 5 for India. Now, the company has seemingly confirms it. On Thursday, it said that the OnePlus 5 will be India’s first phone with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, hinting at an imminent launch. Although OnePlus stops short of providing the launch, the company is actually using the information that Qualcomm has about the impending India launches of phones with the Snapdragon 835 to make an assertion that OnePlus 5 will be the first phone in India to use Qualcomm’s latest and greatest processor.   Earlier, Qualcomm via a tweet and OnePlus CEO Pete Lau in a blogpost had confirm the OnePlus 5 would be powered by its latest processor – Snapdragon 835. While nice to hear, it is also just a confirmation of what was an open secret. The Snapdragon 835 powers most of the flagship phones and hence it is quite obvious that the OnePlus 5 too will use it. Some other flagship phones such as Samsung Galaxy S8, S8 Plus, Xiaomi Mi 6 and HTC U11 that were announced recently also run on the same processor. Although in India, the Galaxy phones come with Samsung’s own Exynos processor.  Qualcomm on Wednesday via its official twitter handle shared a post which stated — #OnePlus5 is coming soon and we couldn’t be more excited that it’s powered by #Snapdragon 835. The post is followed by an image that includes Qualcomm’s logo alongside the OnePlus brand logo.advertisement#OnePlus5 is coming soon and we couldn’t be more excited that it’s powered by #Snapdragon 835. Qualcomm (@Qualcomm) May 24, 2017Later, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau notes in a blog post, “We’re proud to announce the OnePlus 5 will feature the Snapdragon 835 processor, which sets the foundation for smooth, powerful, and efficient performance. With graphically-demanding apps, for example, you’ll notice how fast they load and how well they run.” With this, we are now left with no doubt that the upcoming flagship phone — OnePlus 5 — will be the fastest one among all OnePlus phones.”We also wanted to improve the overall feeling of smoothness,” notes Lau. In order to achieve this goal, OnePlus engineers have reportedly added a feature to OxygenOS to better manage the way apps perform. “The apps you use most are ready to go when you turn on the OnePlus 5. Apps you rarely use are deprioritized and kept from affecting performance.””When we began developing the OnePlus 5, we envisioned a smartphone with flawlessly smooth performance. To illustrate how we made it happen, we’d like to share a bit about our process,” Notes Lau. OnePlus states that with OnePlus 5, the company is focusing on improving its touch latency. Also Read: OnePlus 5 to sport fingerprint scanner and 3.5mm headphone jack, confirms CEO and Co-founder”Our engineers tested why scrolling occasionally differed between phones. There wasn’t a lot of precedent for them to work with – no benchmarks, no industry case studies to learn from. So we used a special high-speed camera to track screen movements and measure input speeds. As a result, apps respond quickly to your touch for a seamless user experience.”Apart from confirming the launch time frame and the processor, Pau also accidentally confirmed that the OnePlus 5 would come with fingerprint scanner, which would be located at the front panel of the device. After OnePlus CEO confirmed the coming of a fingerprint scanner, company co-founder Carl Pie confirmed that the upcoming OnePlys 5 would not ditch the 3.3mm headphone. He confirmed the same on his Twitter account. Further, he also highlighted that the headphone jack on the OnePlus 5 would be placed at the top, unlike the OnePlus 3T that has the audio jack on the bottom edge of the handset. Also, India Today Tech few days ago confirmed that OnePlus 5 will sport dual camera at the rear.OnePlus has a lot of expectations from the OnePlus 5 and is working hard towards making it a perfect smartphone ever by them. With OnePlus 5, the Chinese smartphone manufcaturer is expected to bring the best camera, battery, processor and more. “We’re driven to perfect even the smallest aspects of our products. And when you get your hands on the OnePlus 5, we hope you’ll notice the difference,” says OnePlus.last_img read more

Break Out attempt at TCI Detention Center

first_imgFacebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsApp Related Items:#detaineesattemptescape, #magneticmedianews, #TCIdetentioncenterbreakoutattempt Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsApp#TurksandCaicos, December 6, 2017 – Providenciales – Fast acting, quick thinking security guards at the South Dock Road Detention Center foiled an attempt at escape late Monday night just before 11 o’clock; but they were held in a hostage type situation until Police showed up.Some detainees, including a dozen Dominican poachers and Haitian migrants tried to trick and overpower two guards but failed and, Magnetic Media understands, the Police Tactical Unit was called in to de-escalate the drama.A detainee pretended to be ‘sick’ and when the guards entered the upper floor of the center, they were ‘rushed’ by detainees who tried to bolt out of the open door.   The security men, who are said to be Turks and Caicos Islanders fought the group back and yelled for the lower floor door to be secured; it was and the migrants were unable to break out but the guards were held hostage.Police Tactical swooped in and was able to rescue the guards and restore order.   At the time 11 Dominicans, six Haitians including three women are being held at the Detention Center.#MagneticMediaNews#detaineesattemptescape#TCIdetentioncenterbreakoutattemptlast_img read more

Trump suggests summit with NKoreas Kim could be delayed

first_imgDonald TrumpPresident Donald Trump suggested Tuesday that a planned historic meeting with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un could be delayed, saying the summit “may not work out for 12 June.”Trump raised the possibility that the meeting could be pushed back during a White House meeting with South Korea president Moon Jae-in as the two leaders sought to coordinate strategy as concerns mounted over ensuring a successful outcome for the North Korea summit.Trump told reporters: “If it doesn’t happen, may be it happens later,” reflecting recent setbacks to bring about reconciliation between the two Koreas. The North pulled out of planned peace talks with the South last week, objecting to long-scheduled joint military exercises between U.S. and the Republic of Korea forces, and it threatened to abandon the planned Trump-Kim meeting over the U.S. insistence on denuclearizing the peninsula.Moon said in the Oval Office that the “fate and the future” of the Korean Peninsula hinged on the talks, telling the U.S. president that they were “one step closer” to the dream of a denuclearized Korean Peninsula.”There are certain conditions that we want,” Trump said. He added if they aren’t met, “we won’t have the meeting.” He declined to elaborate on those conditions.last_img read more
